Froggy 106.7 Internship Projects

March 24, 2008 16:16 by renix86

During the Summer of 2006, I worked as an intern at pop radio station Froggy 106.7 in Auburn, Indiana.  During my time there, I worked on Morning Show prep, as an audio tech, as a promotions assistant, and also updated the website frequently.  The following are some banners and campaigns I designed for their website (www.ilovefroggy.com).

Cardinal Vision 57 Website

March 24, 2008 15:27 by renix86

www.cardinalvision57.com

I started as Multimedia Director at Cardinal Vision 57, Ball State's student-produced TV station, in the Fall of 2006.  They did not have a website of any kind and I was the first Webmaster to be a part of the station.  I was starting from scratch to build a website to highlight student shows and deliver information on our growing station.

Site Goals:

  1. Feature shows depending on content of the week
  2. Display schedule for station online
  3. Make contacting staff simple for anyone interested starting a show
  4. Leave room for advertising possibilities

Site Pros:

  • Meets site goals
  • Integrates Flash feature
  • Give off look of a TV station

Site Cons:

  • Slow loading because of # of images
  • Could have been done easier in CSS (but I didn't know it at the time)
  • Needs more contant

WCRD Website

March 24, 2008 13:43 by renix86

www.wcrd.net

In the Fall of 2006, I was asked to join Ball State's student radio station WCRD 91.3 fm as Web Manager.  I had been a DJ for a year at the point and was happy to take on the task.  The station decided before I was hired to undergo a re-format of their identity and asked me to design a new website and logo for their new sound.  The site was created in less than 1 week in Dreamweaver so that it could be launched with the official format change.  Because of the short ammount of time it was built in, the site is simple yet met all the stations needs at that time.

Site Goals:

  1. Give new look and feel for station format change
  2. Highlight events at station
  3. Leave room for advertisting
  4. Display Event Calendar
  5. Make Schedule Available Online
  6. Manage Web Stream
  7. Display DJ Profiles
  8. Make people want to come to site and listen online

Site Pros:

  • Easy to navigate
  • Displays events prominently
  • Gives advertisers top billing
  • Open to frequent changes
  • Visually appealing

Site Cons:

  • Cross-browser issues because of Layers
  • Only 3 options for features
  • Flash banner can cause issues depnding on which browser/machine
  • No longer fits all needs of the growing station
EDIT: A redesign of the site is currently underway.  I am working closely with my new Assistant Multimedia Director to produce an all new site to be launched in May of 2008.

Traces and Fragments Website

March 24, 2008 13:35 by renix86

http://renix.iweb.bsu.edu/traces&fragments.html

The website was made as an assignment for TCOM 351: Intro to Web Development.  The assignment was to make a website for a student-made product.  This website was my first venture into Flash and I was teaching myself as I went.

 Site Goals:

  1. Display student-film "Traces and Fragments" online
  2. Provide information on actors
  3. Add Interactivity with Photo Album
  4. Allow users to view film online

Site Pros:

  • Unique look and feel that captures the dark and eerie tone of the film
  • Met all Site Goals successfully
  • Learned a lot about Flash in creating

Site Cons:

  • Loading time is very long and there is no loader/progress bar
  • Movie plays automatically with no controls
  • Navigation could be a lot easier
